Are you interested in using your experience in the Higher Education sector to help younger generations thrive? School governance could be your next rewarding role. Governors for Schools is looking for skilled professionals across England and Wales to join one of the largest volunteering forces in the country.
School governors and academy trustees are responsible for shaping the vision of a school. People with experience in the education sector can offer valuable insight to a governing board, equipped with the various skills needed to make savvy strategic decisions. Whether you’re reaching the end of your career or just starting out in the industry, schools need your unique perspective to help improve educational standards.
As well as supporting you to give something back to society, school governance provides valuable professional development opportunities. From enhancing your knowledge of the education system to sharpening your capacity for strategic thinking, school governance could help you further your career and develop your transferrable skills.
William Durham, Head of Impact at Governors for Schools explains:
“Being analytical, persuasive, and adept at problem-solving are vital skills to have on a governing board; that’s why university staff make excellent school governors. Those working at a university already have valuable education knowledge and experience. By volunteering their skills as school governors, university staff can continue to impact education locally.
Wherever a school governor is in their professional career, volunteering also offers invaluable learning opportunities that might not otherwise be encountered in working life. These opportunities should be celebrated as playing a key role in personal growth and development, as well as supporting career progression. Governors for Schools provides those volunteers with the necessary tools to kickstart their growth.”
As well as playing a role in your professional development, school governance is a fantastic opportunity to champion a commitment to improving educational achievement in your local community and beyond and Governors for Schools work with many universities to support their Access and Participation Plans.
