After a pandemic-enforced break, we are delight see the return of FACE’s annual publication. As with previous editions, the chapters have been inspired and informed by the Network’s summer conference. In this case the 2022 conference hosted by the University of Southampton.
This edition features contributions from practitioners and researchers (including those who combine both roles) from a broad range of institutions and organisations. Collectively, these chapters reflect the focus of the conference, which is captured in the book’s title. Accordingly, the perspectives of students, practitioners, tutors and others are presented, with the shared and unifying objective of securing equality of access to, and success in, further and higher education.
Whilst a wide range of subjects are explored, each chapter addresses one of two key themes. The first, is to advance our understanding of the challenges to educational engagement and progression faced by those from under-represented backgrounds. The second, is to profile practices and projects that have sought to address these challenges.
